The Jungle Pool
Privacy
The Jungle Pool is a private, invitation-only football pool for one group of people who have played together for twenty-nine years. It is not a public service and it does not advertise. This page says what it holds and what it does with it.
What we hold
Your email address, because that is how the commissioner invites you and how you sign in. Your team name. The picks you make and when you made them. Optionally, a mobile number, if you choose to add one.
There are no passwords. Signing in sends a six-digit code to your email; we never see or store a password.
What we do with it
Run the pool. Your picks become visible to the other members once the week’s deadline has passed — that is the whole point of the Yellow Sheet, and it is how this pool has always worked. Before the deadline, nobody can see your card but you.
We email you about things that affect your card: a receipt when you save picks, a notice if a line moves on a game you took, and a notice if a game comes off the board.
Text messages
Adding a mobile number is entirely optional and the pool works exactly the same without one. If you add one and tick the consent box on your profile, we will text you when the week’s picks open, when a game you picked has its line move or gets pulled off the board, and when your card is still missing near the deadline. You can also choose to receive your sign-in code by text.
We do not share, sell, rent or otherwise pass your mobile number or your consent to anybody. No third party, no affiliate, no marketing list. It is used to reach you about this pool and nothing else. Our messaging provider transmits the messages on our behalf and does not receive your number for any purpose of its own.
Message frequency: a few messages per week during the football season, and none in the off-season.
Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them, or HELP for help. You can also untick the box on your profile page, or delete your number entirely — clearing your number withdraws your consent automatically.
We never send anything about lines, spreads, odds or money by text. Those stay on the site and in email.
What we never do
We do not sell anything to anybody. We do not run advertising. We do not track you across other websites. There is no analytics product watching what you click.
Getting your data out, or deleted
Ask the commissioner. It is a fifty-person pool with a named human running it — email works better than a form. Deleting your account removes your profile and your contact details; picks that have already been graded stay in the pool’s record, because the standings of a season everybody played are not one person’s to erase.
Questions about any of this go to the commissioner. See also the terms.
